UK couples are looking for more meaningful ways to preserve the memories of their big day, and it's leading to a massive surge in demand for stationery that lives on. Search interest for “eco-friendly wedding invitations” has jumped 400% year-on-year, according to Ahrefs keyword data, as planners move away from traditional one-use cardstock.
Memories that grow
For many couples, the traditional wedding invitation feels like a missed opportunity for sustainability. It is a beautiful item that usually ends up in the recycling bin within a few weeks. Plantable stationery offers a different path: once the wedding is over, the invitation can be torn up and planted to grow wildflowers, herbs, or vegetables.
“We wanted to create something that wasn't just a piece of paper, but a memory that actually grows,” said Tom Willday, founder of SeedPrint, a UK-based specialist in plantable, zero-waste stationery. “When you plant your wedding invitation and it turns into a patch of flowers, that memory stays alive in a very tangible way. It’s a living tribute to the day.”
Intentional planning
This shift reflects a broader commitment to sustainable living. Data from Bridebook’s 2026 UK Wedding Report, which surveyed over 7,000 couples, found that 83% of them now make a sustainable effort in at least one area of their wedding. Meanwhile, the WeddingDates 2026 UK Wedding Industry Report found that 81% of couples now consider eco-friendly elements a priority.
Choosing seed paper is an intentional act. It moves the focus from short-term luxury to long-term impact.
“Couples are becoming much more conscious about the footprint their wedding leaves behind,” Willday explains. “Stationery is a visible signal of that intentionality. It tells guests that the couple isn't just following tradition, but making choices that are kind to the planet.”
Planning ahead
The surge in search interest typically peaks in the early months of the year, as couples plan for summer weddings. This timing works perfectly for seed paper, as guests can plant their invitations just as the growing season begins, creating a beautiful garden reminder of the wedding.
How we worked this out
The search volume data used in this report comes from Ahrefs keyword averages, comparing data from 2025 and 2026. The statistics on couple behaviour were gathered from the 2026 UK Wedding Industry Report and the Bridebook 2026 UK Wedding Report. SeedPrint synthesized these figures to highlight the growing trend in plantable keepsakes.
