Do you have a garden that you need to maintain? It can be pretty boring, right? There are a lot of things that need to be done, and motivating yourself to do this can be a challenge in itself. Having said that, it’s something that you have got to get done no matter what, so you can’t afford to allow yourself to lose focus or motivation. Having said that, it might be worth it to take your time and find something a little more fun to make it feel like less of a chore. In this article, that’s what we’re going to be taking a look at, so keep reading down below if you would like to find out more about this.
Get Your Kids Involved
The first thing that we are going to suggest is that you get your kids involved in gardening. Now, it’s probably not something that they are going to be massively enthused about, and you can’t blame them when you don't know exactly what to do about it either. But, you’ve just got to push through, get them out there with you, and it should already be a little more fun seeing as you have got someone with you.
If you can, you can try to turn some of the maintenance tasks into little games, see who wins, and have a competition. It’s not always going to be possible, but if you can manage to find a way to make this happen, we can assure you that it’s going to be worth it.
Grow Something, It Helps
Something that we have found helps us is to grow something. It might not seem like it’s going to work, but when you are growing something, taking care of it, and invested in its wellbeing, then it is a lot easier to get motivated to keep the surrounding areas looking nice. Of course, it’s likely not enough to give you the full motivation that you need to make a beautiful garden, but it should help you to maintain it at least.
When we say that you should grow something, we mean something that you are interested in. Some people like to grow flowers, other people like to have an entire vegetable patch where they grow different types of veg, and others like to grow herbs. If you’re dedicated to this, you can grow whatever you want, you just have to keep a close eye on everything, ensuring that you’re doing it all right.
Get The Right Equipment
Of course, another thing that you should be doing is getting the right equipment. We will admit that there are some pieces of equipment that are far more exciting than others. For example, investing in a robotic lawn mower is going to be a lot more exciting than investing in a new trowel, even if you have a love of gardening. So, take a look around and see what you can find to make maintaining your garden easier for you. You are far more likely to get out there and enjoy your time when you have cool little pieces of equipment on your side.
It might take time to get used to having these things and learn how to work them, but that’s okay. The important thing is that you are able to get things done in a timely manner.
Make It A Race
If you have someone helping you, like your kids or your partner, then have you thought about turning it into a race? Seeing who can get the most amount of stuff done until it’s finished? As long as you are not rushing through the chores to the point where they are not getting completed properly, then there is no reason that you cannot do this. Of course, you need to go through and check everything at the end, just to be sure that the quality of the job was not compromised.
This should bring out the competitive streak in you and the others out there with you, and you should get through the tasks pretty fast. If this doesn’t work, then it might be worth setting the races up for each individual task, rather than the chore list overall as at least this feels more doable.
Set Yourself Goals And Use Rewards
The final thing that we want to say is that it’s a good idea to set goals and use rewards to keep you motivated. You will find that you enjoy the tasks more when you know that there is something that you want at the end of the line. It might take you some time to get into the swing of things, but before you set out there every time, you need to make a list of things that you need to get done, and then reward yourself when you manage.
If there are things that are leftover when you come inside, then you don’t get your reward as you didn’t do the things that you needed to. Sometimes this can really suck but it’s the best way to keep yourself in check. Or, if someone wants to get out there and finish what you started, then you can both share the reward you set for yourself. You can afford to be a little flexible, the only goal is that you enjoy the garden maintenance side of things a little more than you do right now.
At the end of the day, the only person who is going to be able to complete the maintenance for your garden is you, unless you hire help. But, it’s important that you are doing everything that you can to make it a little more fun so that you can end up enjoying yourself a little more. We know that garden maintenance isn’t the most exciting thing out there, which is why you’ve got to do your best to make it happen. We wish you the very best of luck, and hope that you manage to maintain a beautiful garden going forward.
