5 Practical Tips to Lose Weight Sustainably (& Without Much Effort)

Wellness

16 May

Countless people end up in a position where they want to lose some weight. But, they wouldn’t want to fall for fad diets or do anything that could end up proving to be unhealthy. You could find yourself in this position and want to lose weight sustainably.

As natural as that is, it can often be complicated to figure out. Add in how busy you could already be with your life, and it’ll feel like even more of a hassle.

It doesn’t need to be. Focusing on a few practical tips could be more than enough to help with this. They should be easy to fit into your lifestyle while helping you lose weight in a healthy way. There’s no reason why they wouldn’t work.

Five of these could be worth starting off with and sticking to.

Lose Weight Sustainably: 5 Practical Tips to Use

1. Lift Weights

You’ll already know that exercising is one of the most effective ways to lose weight. The more time you spend exercising, the more weight you should lose. But, that doesn’t mean just exercising for the sake of it. Some exercises will have much more of an impact than others, with lifting weights being one of the more notable.

This helps you build lean muscle, which then causes your body to use up more calories during the day. That can then help you lose more weight as time goes on. While this shouldn’t replace all of your exercises, it should be one of the more notable ones you have.

2. Swap Out Some Meals

What you eat will naturally have a significant impact on your weight, which is why it’s always worth considering swapping out a few meals. And, this doesn’t have to mean you need to go for options that don’t taste nice. Instead, you can always go for healthy meal replacement shakes and similar options that taste great.

Many of these can be a part of a healthy diet plan that lets you lose weight in a slow and sustainable way. It’s just a matter of taking the smart approach and making sure it isn’t just a short-term fad or quick results that disappear relatively quickly.

3. Move Away from Processed Foods

Speaking of swapping out some meals, getting rid of processed foods can be one of the best steps you take for your weight. These are full of fats, carbs, sugar, and other unwanted ingredients that can be quite unhealthy. On top of causing you to put on more weight, they can increase your chances of cardiovascular issues and other problems.

Cut down on processed foods as much as you can. Ideally, you’ll get rid of them completely so you can live a healthier life overall. Since there are plenty of healthier, tastier options, doing this shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

4. Curb Carbs Instead of Fats

Going on a diet is relatively natural if you need to lose more than a few pounds. But, that doesn’t mean just going for any diet you can think of. While low-fat diets have always been relatively popular, low-carb diets might be much more effective. There are signs that suggest you could lose more weight with them compared to low-fat options.

And that’ll be the case with the same amount of calories. This doesn’t even need to be as much of an adjustment than you might’ve thought. You’ll see the results relatively quickly, and these should be quite noticeable as time goes on.

5. Become a Label Reader

With how much you’ll need to pay attention to what you’re eating, it’s easy to see why it could feel a little overwhelming. But, there are a few ways to make this a little easier. Reading product labels before buying them can be one of the better ways to do this as time goes on. And, it doesn’t even have to take much time or effort to do.

By reading the labels, specifically with the nutrient information, you can find healthier options for anything you’re looking for. After that, it could just be a matter of sticking with the options you’ve already found to be healthy, and maintaining a healthy weight gets easier in time.

Weight Loss Mistakes to Avoid Going Forward

As much as these tips can help you lose weight sustainably, it doesn’t mean you mightn’t make a few mistakes during your weight loss journey. These can pop up all the time, despite how much you could be trying to avoid them.

Thankfully, that doesn’t have to mean they need to have a significant impact on your weight loss journey. It’s just a matter of knowing about them ahead of time so you can minimise or avoid them.

Some can be more common than others, so they could be relatively easy to avoid, like:

  1. Expecting Too Much, Too Soon – Countless people believe they’ll see results practically overnight, which isn’t going to happen. And, they could end up giving up when that happens. It’ll take at least a few weeks to see any large results.
  2. Only Focusing on Exercising – As effective as exercise at helping with weight loss, it’s far from the only part of the process. You’ll need to put the time and effort into your nutrition on top of that.
  3. Having Too Restrictive a Diet – Diets are a natural part of losing weight, but they shouldn’t be overly restrictive. The diets that restrict your food intake too much will be quite unhealthy and wouldn’t be sustainable to follow.

By knowing about these weight loss mistakes ahead of time, you’re much less likely to make them. At a minimum, they’re less likely to have too much of an impact on your weight loss journey.

Summing it Up

Trying to lose weight sustainably often feels like an uphill battle at the best of times. But, it doesn’t need to be. Focusing on the right tips and tricks could be more than enough to make sure you’re losing weight in a healthy way.
