Where is your mind wandering today?
I often wonder that if everything I am doing to help the environment is really changing anything. Am I really making that much of a difference? When I go grocery shopping or to the farmers market, everyone is double bagging all their produce anyways and I am here with my reusable grocery bags and organic cotton produce bags.
Then my husband reminds me that not everyone is going to go to lengths that we go to help the planet, but what I am doing is inspiring others to make small changes! And eventually people will slowly change. He also reminds me that living as we do is lots of work.
We have to remember our reusable bags and produce bags when going to get food, I have to lug all 28 reusable diapers up the stairs every 3 days to wash and after hang them all to dry on the drying rack! We have to remember our reusable cups, utensils and containers whenever we go out, so we don’t have to get disposable container and things. We have to go the farmers market every saturday to compost our food scraps, even if we don’t want to…
Boy, I am tired writing this.
I guess, I have to be patient and think positive. I hope to plant enough seeds, that people will want to do better! One day at a time….Rome wasn’t build in a day, right? But I am not sure how long the planet has….
This was my 5 minute Stream of Consciousness Sunday post. It’s five minutes of your time and a brain dump. Want to try it? Here are the rules…
- Set a timer and write for 5 minutes only.
- Write an intro to the post if you want but don’t edit the post. No proofreading or spellchecking. This is writing in the raw.
- Publish it somewhere. Anywhere. The back door to your blog if you want. But make it accessible.
- Add the Stream of Consciousness Sunday badge to your post.
- Link up your post below.
- Visit your fellow bloggers and show some love.

I am the Good Girl Gone Green. Seeing garbage cans overflowing with recyclables breaks my heart.

Great post. You and I and the guy next door may not be able to fix all the problems of the planet, but hopefully we’re not adding to them.
I, being the pessimist I am, fear that the planet is in deep, deep trouble.
Thanks, Jules! Oh, I think the planet will still be here long after we all kill ourselves. Other things will grow and inhabit the planet that can live on the mess we created!
I say keep up what you are doing. It’s people like me that you inspire. I regularly forget my reusable bags and then see someone else using them and curse myself… next time, yes next time I will remember them.
Thank you, Julie! I am happy that I do inspire people like you to do better. And the environment thanks you every time you bring your reusable bag.
It is hard to go green and keep it up. At times I falter because it is easier to just go with the status quo. But I believe while alone you may not see the difference, there are many of us that you don’t see that are fighting the good fight with you!
Thank you Melissa! I know I am not alone and I will continue my quest to educate others to live a greener lifestyle!
Definitely keep up the good work. I always feel like an alien from another planet when I’m the only one at the grocery store using reusable (and in some cases, handmade) bags, but I have gotten more confident, the longer I’ve done it. I mean, the people double-bagging with plastic should be the ones who are self-conscious, not those of us who are trying to do better.
Thank you for doing what you do, and for inspiring others!
Thank you Heather for your kind words! I am happy that I do inspire other to do better! And yes, the double baggers should feel like aliens, not us.
I hear ya! I feel it most with the diapers…with so much rinsing and washing and drying (I’m bad…I only do outdoor drying some of the time-I don’t have a clothesline) I wonder if I really am saving any energy, resources or money by cloth diapering. I’m not switching to ‘sposies, but sometimes it feels like it is just the swapping of bad habits.
But you keep up your part! I’ll keep up mine, and that is all we can do. And I can go drag my ass to the store and get a clothesline
Thank you! I hang my stuff inside on drying racks. We are not allowed to hang clotheslines at my condo, it’s some sort of rule. Apparently, it looks ugly! Good for you for using reusable diapers. I love them, but sometimes I wish they would clean themselves…*sigh*
Great post!
I’ve been going green for a few years now and while I will admit that we haven’t gone quite as far as you have, I do think we’ve made some difference, and I know we’ve inspired a few people to at least do SOMETHING. It’s hard to do all the things you do, I’m sure, but I admire what you’re doing!
Thank you so much, Crystal! As long as you are doing the best you can.I haven’t always been like this. It was one day at a time; baby steps to a better me and a better planet!
Hey, thanks for stopping by with a comment! I wanted to check out your site since we have such similar names.
I just couldn’t find you or an email, so I lost track. I think what you’re doing is incredible, and I know myself when I use my grocery bags, AND the fruit/veggie ones – that’s a successful day! SO imagine how much more you’re doing? Nice to “meet” you!
Happy Fourth!
And what great blog names we have, Andrea! Thank you so much for the kind words. Just remember every bit helps and if I can inspire others to bring their reusable bags and reusable produce bags, I know I am doing something right! Nice to meet you as well and until the next SOC or I think I will stop by more often! Cheers!
Think of where we were 20 or 30 years ago. You may not be able to remember but I surely do. We have come so far in terms of packaging and reducing what we use. We’re getting better at recycling and reusing. The biggest obstacle is convenience. People don’t want to work harder than they have to. Keeping up the trends will soon turn a trend into a standard!!
Thanks Fadra for stopping by! Yes, I agree connivence is the culprit and people don’t want to work too hard, but one day at a time people will hopefully change their ways. I am here to help others do the best that they can. I will keep doing what I am doing in hopes it will no longer be a trend and become a standard! See you next SOC….my new fave blog day!
First, your site is GORGEOUS! I am ridiculously impressed. Second, I think it is amazing what you are doing for our world. Thank you for your inspiration!
Oh, thank you *blush* I hope to inspire others to do little more for our planet! Thanks for stopping by!
Ha ha! You sound like me, your husband like my boyfriend.
I often feel like such an alien, with my proper mug & plates at events, in this natural park, along this beautiful coastline – that collects huge amounts of plastic. Even though just a few weeks ago there was an article in the local paper, my surfer friends all read it. But still, last night again, it´s just us with our mugs…. I´m slowly realising the majority of people can´t do it. It´s not come easy realising this, having been on this for nearly 3 years, but I´m getting it now. It´s need to be done at a higher level & there not be a choice. So even though it´s often made me feel down & lonely in the real world, it´s great reading this & knowing I´m not alone! & neither are you.
