Stream of Consciousness: Good Kid Gone Green

10 Comments Stream of Consciousness Pin It

I love how kids can be just like a sponge. They pick up a lot of what us adults do and say. Sometimes good. Sometimes bad. My little nieces who is 8 years old is such a smart kid. She always hears  my comments about the environment and how we should recycle, etc.

One day she was out with my sister. The lady at the store was going to put whatever they bougth in a bag. Little VT looked at her mom and said “Mom we don’t need a bag I can just carry it.” She obviously over heard me saying something along those lines in the past.

A few months ago, she was working on a school project about the environment and wrote “I want to be just like my auntie Stephie.”  Ummmmm….heart melting right now. Now that is the sweetest and cutest thing anyone has ever said.

Recently, she was writing at home about the environment again. She wrote something along the lines as you need to turn off your lights to help the planet and count to 100 and you can turn them back on. Again, she probably heard me refer to the environment or she is secretly reading my blog….I am hoping she is reading my blog!!

It make me so happy to know that the younger generations are interested in our planet and want to do what they can to preserve it.

If the ‘Good KID Gone Green’ gets it, how come us adults don’t.

This was my 5 minute Stream of Consciousness Sunday post. It’s five minutes of your time and a brain dump. Want to try it? Here are the rules…

That’s great! I wonder if some of the adults don’t get it because they never had anyone to show them that the Earth and Nature is something to be respected? I would feel bad about that, but they aren’t kids anymore, and so the sympathy just isn’t there. So we can just be good role models for those that need them :) Sounds like you’re on the right track!

How sweet! I love how kids pick up so quickly. My 2 1/2 year old often says what Bob the Builder does, “reduce, reuse, recycle!” He also treats all my coupons like money! Trained him young! I do wish communities made recycling easier. We moved from living right around the corner from a huge recycling center to a town that practically hides info on how and where to recycle. We do have 1 recycling bin. Out of the list of things we *should* be able to recycle, the only thing they take is newspaper. The hubs did start a great recycling effort – home brewing beer! He is collecting and reusing bottles from all over!

Yes they are! When I was little my dad was in the Army and you were required to learn a language every year. I had German for 5 years and French 1 year. Then he retired and then I had to wait 4 years to be able to learn a language. Back then you had to be a sophmore to take a language. It is too hard by then. I have come over from the Sunday Blog Hop and I am following you thru GFC, Facebook and Twitter. I would love a follow up on all three when you get a chance. Have fun blog hopping and I hope your week is wonderful!

My son (who has autism, by the way… showing this green love spreads) is in charge of recycling in our family. He is OHHHH sooooo good at it.

Glad to read of the impact the world is having on our kids and our kids are having on the world.

They need to bring back the Give a hoot, don’t pollute commercials. Whatever happened to those? Kids are eager to do what is right and adults…can be lazy.

Leaving lights on is my biggest pet peeve! I just don’t get leaving a room, knowing you won’t be back for a bit and just leaving the light on! Grrr…

Also the link to this on Fadra’s page isn’t correct, just an FYI!

I think they pick up and stick with those things they learn when really young. I’m so glad she’s getting this! Go you!

You hit the nail on the head for how to make this world a better place. Don’t tell kids how to do it. Model good behavior and they will learn it on their own.
