Project Green Foot- Week 38

12 Comments Project Green Foot Pin It

This past week was most definitely bitter sweet! I am excited we are now closer to friends and family, but I am sad that our little American adventure has come to an end. We have spent the last 3 years living in the US, and have enjoyed every minute of it. I guess all good things must come to an end. I just didn’t think it would happen so fast.

We said good bye to my favorite vegan and organic restaurant Spiral Diner on Friday evening. It was fitting that it was the first restaurant that I ate at in Fort Worth and would also be my last. I can`t begin to tell you how much I am going to miss this gem of a restaurant! Boy oh boy, did they ever make a mean veggie wrap with agave-mustard dressing.

I think it goes without saying that I will miss Chipotle dearly. The only Chipotle restaurant is in Toronto and I am pretty sure J.P will not want to drive 6 hours to pick-up dinner! I will be in NYC in August and Toronto in October, which means more Chipotle for me. However, the shakes and sweating associated with withdrawal have already set in!

2-COMPOSTING
We had lots of veggies and fruit that needed to be eaten before we moved. Therefore, my Blendtec was doing lots of overtime. I never made the same smoothie this week because we had so much random produce in the fridge to use up. All I can say is I made some very tasty smoothies and some not so tasty ones.

With less juicing- this meant less compost I had to drag to Whole Foods with me. We pretty much composted everything we could except for on Friday. We brought the last batch of compost on Friday morning, and therefore throughout the day we had some scraps with nowhere to put, except for the trash unfortunately. It made me sad, but I honestly had no choice.

I realise that we do reduce our waste tremedously by composting because I already have a decent size bowl full of scraps to be composted and I have been home for 1 full day! You can just call me the compost junkie!

The total weight of our compost was 17.5 lbs.

3-RECYCLING
I am proud to say that we have reduced our recycling by a significant amount. Since being home, I have just recycled some odds and ends, and mail.

4-TRASH

We had some trash this past week. Just the usual suspects- receipts, a piece of plastic from my Kombucha bottle, and a few random pieces of plastic as well as odds and ends we found around the house that we could compost nor recycle. I happy to announce that the local brand of kombucha does NOT have plastic wrapped around the cap. It is just a glass bottle and cap. This makes me so happy!

I finally took a picture of our trash, but it is on my computer which is with J.P. I will post it next week for sure!

5-TRAVEL
This week we drove to the little gym, Whole Foods, Dallas, local driving in Fort Worth and Montreal, the Dallas airport, the Montreal airport to home, and J.P drove from Fort Worth to London, Ontario (he will be leaving London this morning  to drive home) – I am exhausted thinking about all that driving.

It was really hard this week to keep track of the kilometers. We forgot to check the kilometers before leaving Fort Worth, and I forgot to reset the kilometer once I arrived home. Therefore, the amount will be an estimation.

The approximate distance traveled on the TDI was 5000 km ( 3106.9 mi).
