Healthy Child Healthy World is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a less toxic world for children; it ignites the movement that empowers parents to protect children from harmful chemicals. I personally love their mission and everything they stand for.
When I was approached by OnLineShoes.com and made aware that in conjunction with them, Patagonia is donating 10.00 to Healthy Child Healthy World for every pair of Patagonia shoes sold on their site from now until October 17, 2011, I quickly wanted to know how I could help spread the word, raise awareness and help Healthy World Healthy Child with some well deserved financial support.
To be honest, I was torn with accepting a new pair of patagonia shoes and the Healthy Child Healthy World book as a compensation for writing this post and promoting their partnership. As most of you all know, I am in the beginning of my waste-free year. Therefore, receiving a new pair of shoes and a book kinda goes against our Project Green Foot. However, I felt the need to go forward because it is for such a good cause.
And yes, I will be keeping the book (it looks like a great read), and after a few more days of wearing my comfy recycled ripstop nylon soft-shell (upper part); soft recycled polyester lining; partially recycled sticky rubber outsole; PrimeLoft Eco-insulation and vegan Fiona Quilted Mid Deep Plum Boots, a lucky family member (who will definitely put these styling boots to good use) will be receiving them. Besides, Patagonia states on their website “We design and sell things to last and to be useful, but we ask our customers not to buy from us what you don’t need or can’t really use.”
Please don’t get me wrong, I do adore the boots. They are comfortable, eco-friendly and would look great with my organic jeans, but do I really need them? Could someone else get more use out of them? Yes, so sadly I will part with them.
Patagonia goes beyond making eco-friendly products for their customers, they seem to really care about their environmental impact. They try and use recycled materials whenever possible, while trying to reduce their footprint in the process.
They accept all Patagonia clothing and shoes back through their Common Threads Initiative program to first be repaired, and if that is not possible, they recycle the materials into new and exciting clothing and shoes. How great is that?
One pair of shoes at a time we can make a difference for the little feet of the future; even if that means I have to stray from Project Green Foot momentarily to raise awareness.
Would you like to get your hands on a pair of my plum boots? or perhaps another shoe or boot would tickle your fancy? OnLineShoes.com is giving one of my lucky readers their very own pair of Patagonia shoes, along with a copy of the Healthy Child Healthy World book.
