My trashy pavement experience last week.
“Do you have a cleaning disorder?” says the man on his bike as I am picking up trash on my walk.
“No.”
“Well, how come you are picking up trash?”
“Ummm. I just don’t like garbage all over our streets.”
“Well, then. Have a nice day.”
Man on bike rides away.

“Thank you!” I hear and look around confused as I am picking up a brown bag off the side of the road.
“I wish more people were like you and me” says nice man, who apparently picks up trash off the streets, too. *Awesome
“Oh you’re welcome. I am glad I am not the only one.”
“Me too.”
Nice man walks away.
10 things I found on the “Trashy Pavement”
- McDonald’s bag. Actually 2.
- T-shirt. It looks more like a rag at this point.
- LED ashtray. Not sure its purpose. Looks like it was from the dollar store though.
- Pacifier. I am guessing from a candy.
- Lottery tickets. The user must have thought: if you don’t win, you just throw them in the streets.
- Many many juice bags. Come on kids! Can’t you wait until you get home to throw them out?
- Nails. In a plastic wrap. Hope they weren’t for something important cause I have them now.
- Part of a hose – I think.
- A light or something from an unidentified object. Maybe a bike?
- An orange light cover, probably from a car.
Bonus:
11.Plastic bottles. Big surprise!
Once again, I am amazed with the amount of garbage I was able to collect while walking to the grocery store.
The best part of my walk was the family on their porch watching my every move. I heard murmurs while I was saving a water bottle from the drainage system. I can only imagine what they were talking about!
And you know what? I don’t care because I am part if the solution!
How about we make a difference together one piece of trash at a time.

Small Footprints challenge for the week of August 17-23: pick up trash off the streets. Easy enough. I already do that.
environment, garbage, trash, trash pick up

I am the Good Girl Gone Green. Seeing garbage cans overflowing with recyclables breaks my heart.

Love that you are part of the solution and blogging here, just one more part of your proactive approach! :>
Thank you Karen! I try!
Good on you for gathering this up. Just wondering, how does someone lose a t-shirt.
LOL, not sure how they lost their t-shirt.
The juice bags are really sad. That means people are teaching their kids to litter.
Looks like it! Someone should be teaching them to bring them home!
That is awesome that you gather up all this.I agree with the above, it is sad people are littering
Thanks, Melissa!!
I’ve done that before, but I have to say that I don’t do it enough. You ARE making a difference!
Awww, that is so nice to hear!
do you have a cleaning disorder??? ha! that’s funny! obviously it’s never occurred to him that he could pick up that crap. He’s probably the one tossing the bottles. good for you gal!
I know! Funny, eh Jenn? Thanks!
Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone picked up just a few things, or trash when they see it. I seem to pick up a lot of cigarette butts. They are so gross, and people flick them near my yard. I had an argument once with my brother in law about putting them in my yard, and he tried to tell me that they disappear into the ground…what an %^&%&%&!
Cigarette butts equals gross. I hate it when people toss them out their windows or leave them all over the beach…
Bravo to you! And glad to see “WE” are not the only ones! I don’t walk my street, its a back country road. Curvy and very narrow, pretty dangerous to walk in my opinion. BUT I do pick up trash when I am out and about. Especially at parks and playgrounds! WHICH are surrounded by trash bins, it just shows how lazy some people have become.
Cigarette butts, oh don’t get me started! I am nonsmoker now, but when I did smoke I always put my butts where the belonged, trash! People think oh such a small thing but don’t realize the millions of people that do it daily!
One last thing… I must admit I didn’t notice the trash on the sides of highways until I moved to Kentucky. Why? Because I lived in Atlanta before, and those roads (not just highways) are so trashy. I am here to say Kentucky keeps our prisoners and jail men busy, and I couldn’t think of a better way to use our tax dollars!
I use to live in Augusta, GA and when we drove down the highways…there was trash everywhere! I am happy I am not alone! WElcome to the trashy club!
We are going on our walk tomorrow and I am scared as to what we will find. Last time I walked the trail behind our house I found a pile of cabbage. CABBAGE!!!
I am sure you will find all sorts of weird things! But randomly leaving cabbage on a trail is weird!
Well done! And it sounds like a fabulous way to meet new people. Perhaps you could start a dating service while collecting trash. I’m sure it would be huge hit!
Thanks for dropping by Momfever.

Aww, that is so sweet of you to say! Thank you!
That is such a great idea. My 3 year old loves walking around the neighborhood with Papa and pick up aluminum cans for recycling. It is so funny, she really always wants to do it. {I should blog about it.}
I am visiting from Top Ten Tuesday at Oh Amanda. It is nice to visit your blog today. I hope you enjoy the rest of your week!
Blessings,

In Canada, when you return your cans and plastic bottle you get 5cents and 10cents for glass beer bottles-retured to a convenient store! i wish they did that in all the American states! Yay for your 3 year old-be proud mama!
It is sad that so many people think trash apparently just disappears once they chuck it into the street…glad you are part of the solution!!!
Very sad! And thank you!
I always try to pick up trash if I am out on the street/ park/ parking lot and have taught my 3 years old to do the same. They think it’s a great game!
Good for you~How fun!
Thanks for being part of the solution. Yep, we’re garbage picker-upers too. Amazing how much crap you find laying around. I know a small portion is not on purpose, but there is so much I wonder how little that stat is. I’m sharing this of course:-)!
T
Hooray! , I am not the only garage picker!
At least no one asked if you were fulfilling some sort of community service order.
I think it’s great that you’ve been picking up around your street. Really, if more people did that, or better yet not litter, the whole city would be cleaner. Keep up the good work.
(stopping by from Thoughtful Thursday Hop)
LMAO…at least. Thank you for your kind words, Tara!
I love how you say that you are part of the solution. What a great sentiment!
Thank you Jessica!
[...] and there are candy wrappers, plastic bags, etc. just hanging out in the grass. Last year, I began bringing a reusable bag and gloves with me on my walks, so I can pick up other people’s trash and at least dispose of it [...]
